Morey Amsterdam Was A Huge Early TV Star With the Dumont TV Network

Most people remember Morey Amsterdam as the witty jokester Buddy Sorrell on The Dick Van Dyke Show. More than a decade earlier, it was Morey Amsterdam who was the first King of TV, even before Milton Berle held that role.

The reason that Morey Amsterdam's star faded is the fact that he appreared on the Dumont TV Network. He was not only exclipsed by Milton Berle on NBC, but also by Jackie Gleason on the very same Dumont Network. But while Jackie parlayed his Dumont success into stardom on CBS, Morey Amsterdam dropped out of site, out of the limelight until his revival with Dick Van Dyke in 1961.

Even so, his days as a leading star ended at the Silver Swan Nightclub, home of his Dumont TV Network Show. You can watch the show right here on Nostalgia Television Network's Dumont TV Network.Com.
